in real estate and beyond!
There is a Chinese saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
Home Run Realty was started because we wanted to bring the personal connection back into real estate. Our desire to empower people is not limited to the four walls of real estate but human welfare as well.
It doesn't matter how much we have to give, however big or small, true generosity always brings positivity to our lives. Give with your whole self, love with your whole heart, and your life will be full of happiness. One small step, one small act will create a ripple. You may not always see its effect from the middle of the pond, but it is there. Drop some love, some laughter, or some kindness into the water, and see what happens.
Wendy experienced this ripple effect first hand when her son Jai was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at 19 months old. Amidst the shock, anxiety and fear for her baby's future, she reached out to Down Syndrome Victoria, a membership organisation that provides support for parents, families, friends and professionals connected to someone with Down Syndrome.
They arranged a visit to Wendy's home, where she was greeted by Sue, who was armed with leaflets and books filled with information, and, unforgettably, a very special photo album.
The photo album had pictures of Sue's daughter, from infancy to adulthood. Sue's daughter also has Down Syndrome. By showing Wendy these photos of her daughter doing the things she loved, having fun and living her best life, Sue helped Wendy see that anything was possible for her son.
This beautiful act of kindness created a ripple effect in Wendy and Jai's life, because despite the challenges that lay ahead, they had something positive to strive for.
Down Syndrome Victoria is an organisation close to the heart of Home Run Realty, and it is our hope that we can spread some awareness and encourage support for this very worthy cause.
Sir Winston Churchill once quoted "We make a living by what we get; but we make a life by what we give."
As professionals we should not be afraid to talk about and connect over the things that we are passionate about, even the things outside of the industry we work in. We are not robots managing your property, and you are not dollar signs in our pocket. We are all people! This is what we mean when we say we want to bring a personal touch back to real estate.
We understand that everyone has their own unique story and believe that every individual should be treated with respect and equality. Where we can, we will always encourage others to explore the stories of others who are different to themselves, and to support humanity by showing generosity whenever possible.
As Home Run Realty grows we will be looking for different ways that we can help those who need it the most.
The Truth Sometimes Hurts
The following is an excerpt from "Australia’s shame: The thousands of children who go to bed hungry" - published 15/04/2018
“We’ve heard stories of kids turning up with packets of chips and coke [to school], that was their breakfast and lunch,” he said.
“Some kids were eating paper. Their parents had told them, ‘There’s not enough food, if you get hungry you’ll need to chew paper’.
“This isn’t made-up. This is a story we heard setting up one of our school breakfast programs down in Lakes Entrance, which is a beautiful part of the country.
“No one’s spared. It’s not people on the street; it’s people in your street. It’s in every community across Australia.”
